Regarded as the finest quality, safest, and most advanced luxury sedan of its time, the W116 body Mercedes-Benz was the pinnacle of automotive engineering and prestige in the 1970s. Few of these magnificent sedans still remain, and fewer are of the quality of the one presented here. This Astral silver with Grey velour 450SEL has only 50,000 miles.

Reportedly, only 10 of these cars were imported into the US in 1979 with the factory velour interior. This one was also specified to have the optional and desirable rear seat headrest.

This highly original example has had one high quality repaint that was performed in the last couple of years. Inside the factory valour interior is beautiful. There is no cracking on any of the door panels or dashboard. The seat material has held up beautifully over the last 38 years, and the seats are still firm and supportive. The wood veneer on the dash and center consol is still beautiful and impressive.

Driving this 450SEL is an absolute pleasure. The engine is strong and smooth and makes excellent power and torque. The transmission shifts beautifully and is very responsive. Every function in this car works exactly as it should. The air-conditioning blows cold and hard through the center events with no vacuum leaks. Every light works and all of the gauges are crystal-clear. All of the windows, door locks, and sunroof are all functioning as designed. The Becker radio performs as good as it looks, even the lighting functions as it should and the electric antenna works perfectly. Surprisingly, even the factory cruise control still works.

This for 450SEL turns head everywhere it goes. It's new proud owner will enjoy taking it out on the weekend drives or showing it.
